They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result! Well, it sort of fits here . . . The old "Tablemeister" has been remiss in updating his Specials column. It has been over a year!! So, it is time to turn over a new leaf and try to make this little space a little more newsworthy and a lot more regular. So we will try to keep it short . . .
We have (as usual) a lot of news but more importantly, we are a talent agency and management firm, so we have a lot of new talent to offer our buyers! One of those is BIG. I don't mean big, but HUGE! It is BUMP CITY (ATribute To Tower Of Power). At TEN pieces, it is, obviously, the biggest band on our roster. And the show is BIG. It has all of the great hits made famous by the original group. And they have the blessings of lone time TOP horn player, Mic Gillette, who sometimes sits in with the band and has written horn parts for them. Check them out, you will be pleased. We don't do a lot of R&B, Soul & Funk and I suppose that when we entered that realm, we HAD to do it in a BIG way!!
Also new to our roster is ROCKIN' DOWN THE HIWAY (The Ultimate Musical Road Trip). It is just want it says it is. The band is not a tribute to any single artist, but a fully-themed show that features songs dealing with the open road, cars, trucks, cruising, hot rods, highways, byways, back roads and American's love affair with driving!
Other big news here at Tabletop is the resurgence of NUTHIN' FANCY (A Tribute To Lynyrd Skynrd). One of the original band members had been out of the band for personal reasons and leader, Chris Snyder had been focused on launching CAILFORNIA DREAMIN' and LIVIN' IN THE USA the past two years. But, 2010 saw the re-emergence of "Fancy" in a big way. (BIG is BIG this year!) The band has played more jobs so far in '10 than in the three orevious years combined! We are happy to report that the feedback and response has been tremendous!
CARAVANSERAI (The Santana Tribute) has continued to age gracefully, like a bottle of fine wine . . . They are now in their 13th year and while not playing quite as many gigs this year, they have been bigger, higher profile jobs and it seems almost like a "breakout" year for the band as the word we are getting is that crowds are bigger than ever and response to the show is overwhelmingly positive, possibly "fanatic. With the same members for over three years now, they have settled into a level of confidence and sturdiness that can only make a group of musicians look, feel and SOUND better than ever. That, my friends is where Caravanserai is at this point in their career!
So, that is it for now. We will come back to you much sooner than later with another new round of information and interesting tidbits about Tabletop, our groupand life, in general. Until then, stay well . . .
