Americans
LOVE the road. They love their cars, the highways, freeway, the
back roads, dirt roads, side roads/ They love big rigs, pick up
trucks, sports cars, SUV’s, some even love hybrids and electric
cars. Yes, Americans “get their motors runnin’” and “head out
on the highway.” Our love affair with cars, highways and road
trips have been documented and recorded in hundreds of songs over
the decades.
Now,
Tabletop Productions presents ROCKIN’ DOWN THE HIWAY (The Ultimate
Musical Road Trip) to take music fans on a fast paced, high speed
trip down the “musical freeways” in a souped up, hot rod! Conceived
by Tommy King (the front man, vocalist & keyboard player who
brought us the successful Southern Rockers, Savannah Blue), we
present to you a brand-new show that is all about the “Great American
Road Trip.”
Rockin'
Down The Hiway is a live, theme show designed to take audiences
on a journey through the world of hot rods, cruising, road trips,
highways, and to simply celebrate America's love affair with the
"great open road." The all new line-up includes the
following artists:
Tommy
"T-Bird" King - Band leader, front man, vocalist,
keyboard & harmonica player, Tommy was the driving force behind
last year's surprisingly successful Southern Rock show, Savannah
Blue. Prior to that, Tommy had fronted the popular Sacramento
group, SweetTooth. An associate of Tabletop since '01, Tommy himself,
began playing piano at the tender age of six years. He began performing
professionally in the mid-60's and has been an integral part of
the Sacramento music scene since then.
A
dynamic front man who aims to entertain and involve audiences,
Tommy's idea of a successful show is when the audience is singing
along and participating. "I just love it when the audience
is singing loud. There is absolutely no better feeling of accomplishment.
Val
"Highway" Starr -
Val sings lead and harmony vocals, plays rhythm guitar and adds
a feminine touch to the new Rockin" line up. She began singing
and playing at age 12. When she met fellow band mate, JohnE Sandwich
in L. A. they began working L. A. clubs into the 1980's. They
married in '83, relocated to San Francisco in 1989 where they
formed the Val Starr Band. They moved to Sacramento in 2003 where
they joined a working club band. Shifting directions, she and
John formed Rock Of Ages, before joining up with King to reshape
Rockin' Down The Hiway. Val is featured vocally on many of the
band's new songs.
JohnE
"Road Hog" Sandwich -
Bassist and background vocalist, JohnE hails from Southern California.
Before teaming up with Val as mentioned above, JohnE worked with
numerous celebrity artists both live and in the studio. Val and
JohnE wound up years later in Sacramento with their own group
Rock Of Ages. JohnE brings a solid, precise, bottom end to Rockin'
Down The Hiway, building (along with drummer, Pat McCoy) the foundation
on which the rest of the band's music is built upon.
Cadillac
Jack (alias Jack
Hurst) - Lead guitarist, Cadillac Jack is an accomplished, highly
regarded musician, born & raised in Northern California. He
was a founding member (with King) of the long running Sweettooth.
He describes his playing as BlumetalJaRockCountry, a fusion Blues,
Heavy Metal, Jazz, Roc & Country genres. In Rockin' Down The
Hiway, he promises to incorporate all of those musical styles
in the group's diverse repertoire.
Jack
started in high school garage bands, but began working professionally
in the 80's. He has shared stages with celebrity artists such
as 38 Special, Robin Trower, The Tubes and others. In his 30 years
of playing, he has played hundreds of "gigs." Joining
with King again opens a new chapter in his career. According to
King, the addition of Cadillac Jack dramatically improves the
band's musical talents. One would expect nothing less from the
consummate professional who claims that "every year gets
better with a little help from my friends."
Pat
"Crash" McCoy -
Rockin's new drummer is the other part of that foundation laid
down by bassist, JohnE Sandwich. A long time veteran of the Northern
California music scene, Pat has the "music business bug"
since his youth. He explains that "it is in my blood."
Originally Pat admits to "trying to impress the girls"
at back yard "keg parties" and garage "rehearsal
studios." At that time, he honed his chops on classic rock
tunes like "Paranoid" and "Smoke On The Water."
After years of clubs and private parties, "Crash" now
provides the beat and foundations for Rockin' Down The Hiway.
He steps into the brighter lights of the fair, festival and concert
stages, coming on board with Val and JohnE, with whom he played
in Rock Of Ages. The Trio's arrival has signaled a new look and
quality upgrade to Rockin." Watch out Folks, "Crash
McCoy" is pounding his way right into your face!
